Jennifer Williams est fasciné par les transformations organiques et idiosyncrasique architecturales évidentes au niveau macro et micro dans les milieux urbains, en particulier à New York.

Identifier et commenter la métamorphose de l’espace / lieu en raison de la rénovation / désinvestissement des centres-villes est une force motrice de son travail. En tant que résident de vingt ans de la Lower East Side de Manhattan, elle a éprouvé de première main la vitesse et la mesure dans laquelle une zone peut transformer tout en conservant des éléments de ses identités anciennes.

Afin de mieux comprendre la complexité de cette ville, il faut accepter, comme Rem Koolhaas États dans son livre Delirious New York, «New York est une ville qui sera remplacée par une autre ville … Non seulement une grande partie de sa surface occupée par des mutations architecturales , des fragments utopiques, et des phénomènes irrationnels, mais en outre, chaque bloc est recouvert de plusieurs couches de l’architecture fantôme sous la forme d’occupations passées, les projets avortés et les fantasmes populaires qui fournissent des images alternatives à la New York qui existe. «
